What Is Revitalization?

God is doing some great things at First Christian Church. We’ve been around for over 175 years, and during that time we’ve seen some major ups and downs. God has been faithful. Today, we are a church that loves the Word of God. We are passionate about Christ-centered, expository preaching, and we are committed to glorifying God in our worship. We are committed as a church to the Gospel as the firm foundation for everything we do. We don’t take credit for this; it is the work of God.
But at the same time, we know we’re not a perfect church. We want to grow. Sure, we’d love to grow in size, but more than that, we are hungry to grow in godliness. We want to do build a stronger community to help one another along in our walk with Christ. We want to do a better job of reaching out to the lost. We want it clear in all we do that we love our neighbors, we love each other, and we love Jesus.
So right now, we’re talking about revitalization. Revitalization isn’t really something we’re doing—it’s not something we can do. Revitalization means “to give new life,” and only God has the power to give life. So we’re spending some time in prayer. We’re asking God to pour out His Holy Spirit in us, to make us more like Him. And we’re spending time in the Bible, where we’re learning more about God’s vision for His church.
Now, just because revitalization is God’s work doesn’t mean we won’t ever do anything different. We’re looking for ways we can be faithful to our Great Commission in our changing community. We don’t know what that might look like yet. But we are excited to see what God has in store for the next 175 years of First Christian Church!
We’re an imperfect church, but God's at work in us. We invite you to come and grow with us.
